The 12-time Grand Slam champion bid farewell to his German colleague and will look for a new partnership in 2017.
Novak Djokovic started working with Boris Becker in December 2013. The Serbian tennis player won six Grand Slam titles with Becker by his side, including this year’s Roland Garros – the only major title that Djokovic was missing before 2016.
“The goal we set at the beginning of our cooperation has been completely achieved. I want to thank him for his cooperation, joint spirit, dedication and devotion,” Djokovic said.
In November, Djokovic lost the world number one ranking to Andy Murray after 122 weeks of holding. In the following ATP World Tour Finals, the Serbian player continued to lose to Murray, so he could not regain the lost position.
“My professional plans now will focus mainly on maintaining good performance. In addition, I will also schedule and set goals for the upcoming season,” Djokovic said.
In the opening match at this year’s World Tour Finals, Djokovic was suspected of intentionally hitting the ball at the positions of coaches Boris Becker and Marian Vajda. The situation took place after Djokovic lost to Dominic Thiem 10-12 in the tie-break series of the first match. He hit the ball hard into the stands as if to vent his anger. In the end, the ball did not hit anyone, but Djokovic was criticized for this behavior.
